The Blanco River Watershed is part of the Guadalupe River watershed (Hydrologic Unit Code: 12100203) and includes parts of nine counties in Central Texas: Travis, Gillespie, Blanco, Hays, Kendall, Caldwell, Comal, Guadalupe and Gonzales. This area’s population is among the fastest growing in the United States.

Human activities alter the environment of a river basin through land use choices such as road building and urban sprawl. Land use and land cover (LULC) change reflect the interaction between natural and human systems.

Also, climatic changes have caused additional issues within the Blanco River Basin.  Recent trends of extreme drought coupled with rise in population are negatively effecting natural instream flows and groundwater availability.
